Tungaloy Offers Interchangeable Milling Innovation

To reduce tool changeover times and increase flexibility for milling processes, Tungaloy Corporation has now developed its innovative new Tungmeister series of interchangeable milling cutters. This new system consists of a steel or carbide shank with a through coolant option and a series of exchangeable milling heads for multi-purpose machining applications.

Designed specifically to reduce tool changeover times and tooling costs, the Tungmeister series is available with 23 different types of cutting head that include square, ball and toroidal milling heads plus drilling, chamfering and grooving heads to give the end user the complete milling solution with one tool.
Each head type has a multitude of options to meet a wide range of machining needs. For example, the square type milling heads are available with 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 or 10 flutes with corner radii from 0 to 2mm with 30, 38, 45 and 50 degree cutting helix. Additional options include cutting length, diameter and insert head carbide grades to provide a machining solution for rough to finish machining on a wide variety of material types. This wealth of options is available across the Tungmeister range to ensure the end user can minimise tooling costs and inventory.

The interchangeable Tungmeister reduces machine downtime and the associated tool changeover times. Additionally, machining accuracy is maintained between tool changeovers as the Tungmeister ensures the tool shank remains in the tool holder whilst the precision thread guarantees head changeover repeatability to +/-0.02mm on height and runout, credit to its high precision face and taper contact design. The cutting head insert can be simply and efficiently interchanged with a Tungaloy torque wrench.

The disposable head system can eliminate time consuming re-grinding operations. This allows all heads to be used to the maximum wear before the need for a head insert change. The milling heads all incorporate Tungaloy's most innovative geometries and insert grades to ensure the end user benefits from maximised tool life and productivity.

These benefits are enhanced by the extremely rigid toolholder shank, designed to combine maximum performance and surface finish, especially when used with a long tool overhang. The toolholder shanks are available with a straight or weldon shank with a neck design that can be straight or tapered to meet the users specific needs. The various shanks are available in diameters from 8 to 25mm with an overall length from 80 to 250mm for machining deep cavities and complex 5-axis components. Capable of machining low and high carbon steels, alloy and stainless steels, cast irons, aluminium alloys and hard steels up to 55HRc at extremely high speeds and feeds, the Tungaloy Tungmeister provides a cost effective high performance milling solution for a wide choice of applications.
