Tornos Turns Competition On Its Head With New Gamma

Since its recent launch, the Gamma 20 Series of CNC sliding head turning centres from Tornos has proven a resounding success in the marketplace. Specified for the machining of bar stock up to 20mm diameter, the capabilities and specification far outweigh the benefits of competitor machines in a similar price bracket.

Developed for machining relatively complex components, the new Gamma 20/5 and 20/6 machines perfectly combine productivity and flexibility into a cost effective solution. The new Gamma is available with either 5 or 6 linear axes and two C axis. The Gamma 20/5 allows the customer to load 35 tools with up to 15 rotating whilst the Gamma 20/6 permits the installation of 39 tools with 15 driven, more that competitor offerings in the same price bracket.

The Gamma Series has been launched by Tornos as a mid-range machine to offer end users all the Tornos benefits of expertise, build quality, service, capability and productivity in a machine that is competitively priced with lower specification machines from alternate manufacturers of Swiss type machines. The Swiss manufacturer has developed the Gamma series with the perfect balance between cost and specification to provide a multitude of advantages for the end user.

For example, on the counter operation post alone, the Gamma has vertical Y-axis, vertical numerical setting and machining movement for cross drilling or milling and simultaneous cross drilling or milling operations at the bushing –features not available from many competitors. Since being introduced to the marketplace, the Guide Bush-less system on the Gamma has proven a major selling point. With material costs continually rising, the guide bush-less system minimises remnants to reduce waste material and the associated costs. It also enables the end user to turn right up to the bush and this permits the machining of part lengths up to 250mm as opposed to 200mm on some competitor turning centres. The advantage of increased turning capacity and the potential for considerable material savings continue to prove a major bonus for end users.

The increased capabilities can eliminate secondary operations and productivity whilst additional benefits such as integrated coolant cooled spindles, central lubrication system, synchronous rotating bushing, inbuilt high pressure coolant and powerful and high speed rotating tools are just a small element of the beneficial attributes on the Gamma Series. Beside the increased capabilities and specification, the Tornos Gamma has been designed for rigid, robust and extremely accurate production of parts up to 20mm.
