Tornos Shows New Innovations at EMO 2011 Exhibition

At this years' EMO Exhibition, Tornos will be giving a series of new machines their world première in Hall 17 on Stand B04. At Europe's showpiece event, the market leading Swiss manufacturer will be demonstrating new innovations that enable Tornos to maintain its position as the supplier of the 'world's widest range of turning centres'.

On the stand Tornos will launch the new MultiSwiss 6x14. This evolution will be the first step in Tornos' radical new concept of multi-spindle machines called the MultiSwiss. The MultiSwiss is borne of a philosophy to build an efficient, flexible and user-friendly 14mm multi-spindle at a competitive price. The machine will be sold as a complete machining solution, fully equipped with all possible peripheral options integrated. The concept includes 14 linear axis where every position is equipped with motor spindles to deliver full speed and position control. Moreover, the machine will be the first multi-spindle with sliding headstock technology. The machine will introduce a whole new range of technologies, such as a barrel lock through a torque motor instead of the classical hirt coupling.

Alongside the MultiSwiss will be the new Tornos Delta 38/5; a machine that opitimises affordability & power. With a bar diameter capacity of 38mm, this Swiss-type sliding headstock machine is the first Tornos machine on the market that goes beyond the traditional 32mm diameter frontier in Swiss-type turning. Equipped with a powerful spindle (7.5kW/11kW), this machine has been developed and equipped to handle a high volume of chips. The Delta 38 is available in two versions, both offering driven tooling possibilities and equipped with 5 linear axes and two C-axes. It can be fitted with up to 31 tools, including a maximum of 9 rotating tools (Delta 38/5A). The spindle/guide bush with integrated motor system ensures a more rigid assembly and significantly reduces the scrap length.
Also appearing at EMO for the first time will be the Sigma 32.

This machine will offer complete balance between operation and secondary operation. The machine benefits from rigidity during operation comparable to the best machines in the 32mm market. However, the counter spindle offers a power of 6.0/7.5kW, identical to the main spindle. This makes its rigidity in secondary operation up to 3 times greater than its competitors with a wide range of tools identical to those available for main operation, this machine uniquely allows perfectly parallel machining operations. In addition to perfect tool holding and machining quality in secondary operations, the Sigma 32 provides returns 30% greater than most of its competitors.

For smaller components, the engineers at Tornos have accomplished the major feat of improving and upgrading the Deco 10 machine with the new EvoDECO 10a. The EvoDECO range still features the 4 tool system kinematics and the TB-DECO programming system, making it still possible to engage 4 tools simultaneously into the material. Similarly, the broad selection of tool-holders developed around the Deco range is still compatible with machines from the EvoDECO range. The EvoDECO 10 is more ergonomic and offers greater autonomy; Tornos has worked hard to simplify the maintenance and use of the machine. The machine spindles now incorporate synchronous motors that enable lightning fast acceleration and deceleration, while minimizing the consumption of electricity.

Complimenting the EvoDECO 10 will be the new Almac CU 1007 machining centre. It offers from three to five extremely precise axes dedicated to producing complex micro technical components at an unbeatable price! The design of the CU 1007 ensures great flexibility allowing it to cover a large range of machining fields such as watchmaking, jewelry and the medical and electronics sectors. With a modular design the CU1007 is extremely easy to program with a tool changer, 30,000rpm motor spindle and 1/10μm incremental scale on the three axes. The CU1007 has X and Y slides on pre-stressed rails and a ballscrew. All drives are operated by brushless AC motors with digital servo. Among other machines, the new Delta 38 and EvoDeco 10 will be on show at the Tornos Open House from 11th to 13th October.
