TaeguTec Turns Out Intricate Solutions

As part of its aggressive R&D strategy to introduce new products to market, TaeguTec has now launched its new Top-Mini to improve clamping forces when conducting turning operations on small workpieces. Ideal for sliding head turning shops, the new Top-Mini is the latest innovation in a line of over 40 new products the company is introducing throughout 2011.

In comparison to existing screw-type toolholders that are commonplace, the Top-Mini has been specifically developed for Swiss-type automatic turning centers. To this end, TaeguTec engineers have designed a system that allows inserts to be effectively clamped from the side. This enables the operator to index the insert without removing the toolholder from the lathe. This benefit is increasingly prominent considering sliding head turning centres are engaging in additional tool stations and add-ons that limit space in the work envelope.

The Top-Mini has a simplistic structure that guarantees excellent durability, even after repeated clamping. This structure also offers the end user the option of front or side clamping versions to suit the relevant machine tool and set-up.

A rigid and stable clamping force is guaranteed with the Top-Mini new backward and downward two-directional clamping action that significantly improves tool life and surface finishes by increasing the clamping forces. This ingenious new development also improves the insert clamping process and the repeatability of the insert clamping.

The new Top-Mini are currently available in four designations to accommodate four different insert types. The BCL Top-Mini has an 80 degree included angle for robust external turning and facing processes whilst the BDJ Top-Mini holds 55 degree inserts for external turning and profiling. Alongside these options is the BDN holder for profiling, chamfering and back-turning while the BVJ toolholder houses 35 degree inserts for the intricate machining of difficult to reach corners and profiles. All tool holders are 125mm long with a 12mm height and width with additional options available. The new Top-Mini is available with an extensive range of inserts to suit a wide variety of turning parameters and material types.
